What SDSC SHAR actually publishes

SDSC SHAR’s recruitment help page asks for a JPEG photograph, about 110 × 140 pixels, no more than 40 KB, and not older than six months. “About” matters: that help page does not describe the pixel dimensions as an exact-only validation rule.

Use the detailed notice and live upload instructions for your vacancy. This page does not establish a universal ISRO photograph specification or confirm that recruitment is currently open.

A portrait needs a different approach from a signature

Keep a full-quality original and prepare a separate portrait copy. The hard part is retaining a recognisable face in a small image. A broad scene with a tiny person in the middle is a poor source, even when it has plenty of pixels.

Read your notice for composition or background instructions before cropping. This guide does not invent a background colour, ink rule, face percentage or clothing requirement where the cited help page does not supply one. Do not borrow those details from a passport guide and assume they apply to this recruitment.

Crop in an image editor before using CompressImageTo if the source has the wrong shape or too much empty space. Keep the full head and useful surrounding space according to your notice. The compressor’s current manual resize does not provide a crop selection.

Prepare the proportions, then the file size

For the help page’s example dimensions, the portrait shape is 11:14. If you decide to use that working size, prepare the crop to that shape first. A source at the same proportion can be reduced without making the face narrower or wider.

Open the compressor and choose Resize and compress. Enter the working width and height from your instructions, keep Keep aspect ratio selected, and inspect the planned output. If the proportions differ, both entered dimensions may not be reached. That is a reason to revisit the crop, not a reason to disable proportional resizing.

Select JPEG under Output format. Enter 38 in Target size as a conservative working target, not an official extra restriction. The tool’s 1,024-byte units make that 38,912 bytes, below a decimal 40,000-byte limit. Leave Minimum size empty unless your vacancy explicitly requires a range.

Check the downloaded portrait, not just the green result

After processing, read the dimensions, format and size in the result. Download verified image, then open that file at its actual size. Look for a recognisable face and clear edges around the eyes and mouth. Do not judge a small portrait only from a large preview stretched across a screen.

These settings are a walkthrough, not a claim that a real applicant’s file was tested or accepted. The output depends on the source. If quality is poor, go back to the original capture rather than passing the compressed file through another compressor.

If a file is already below the maximum and looks clear, do not chase an even smaller number. The allowance is a ceiling, not a competition to discard the most information. Check photo age separately: removing metadata does not make an old photograph recent.

When an upload still fails

First check which file you selected. It is easy to choose the original phone image from a downloads folder full of similar thumbnails. Inspect the saved file’s type and pixel dimensions; renaming a PNG to .jpg leaves the underlying format unchanged.

Compare the portal’s error with the vacancy notice. If it names a requirement different from the general help page, retain that message and consult the recruiting centre. Do not keep shrinking a photograph to solve a login, session or unsupported-format problem.

Prepare the signature separately using the companion guide below. A photo and a signature have different shapes and different readability problems; reusing the photo settings for both can produce an unreadable signature. Review both images in the application preview before submitting.
