How to create a ZIP file from multiple files

Package ordinary local files into one ZIP, review the list, name the download and understand why ZIP does not always make photos or PDFs smaller.

  • No upload required for current tools
  • Your files stay private
  • No guaranteed third-party acceptance claims

What the ZIP creator is for

The Create ZIP File tool groups multiple files into one downloadable archive. It is for packaging and sharing a set of files together; it is not an automatic batch image compressor. JPEG, PNG, WebP and many PDFs are already compressed and may become only slightly smaller inside ZIP.

The current ZIP tool creates the archive in your browser from selected local files, without uploading their contents to CompressImageTo. The combined input size limit is 50 MB. That limit applies to the total of the selected files, not to each file separately.

Step 1: select the files you want to package

Open Create ZIP File and select Choose files. In your file picker, select one or more files; selecting several at once creates a list in the Selected files panel.

Read the Files count and Total input size, then review the file list. Use the Remove button beside an item you do not want to include. If you need a different selection, choose Choose files again. To create a ZIP, at least one file must remain.

Step 2: choose a ZIP filename

The ZIP filename field starts as compressimageto-files.zip. You can replace it with a meaningful name such as project-documents.zip. The tool removes unsafe filename characters and adds the .zip extension if it is missing.

If two selected files have the same name, the tool makes unique internal names inside the archive rather than silently overwriting one. Review the downloaded ZIP contents before distributing them when precise file names matter.

Step 3: create, verify and download

Select Create ZIP. The tool packages the files, verifies a ZIP file signature and shows the ZIP size and number of included files. Then select Download ZIP to save the result.

ZIP creation does not send files to a recipient, and the ZIP is not password-encrypted by this tool. Choose a secure sharing method separately if the contents are sensitive.

Worked example: prepare application materials

Suppose you need to hand over a CV, a portfolio PDF and a PNG headshot as one download. Choose all three files, check that their total is below 50 MB, enter application-materials.zip, then select Create ZIP and Download ZIP.

If the recipient specifies a maximum size and the archive is too large, first use the individual image compressor on the headshot if appropriate. ZIP packaging on its own does not guarantee meaningful size reduction for an existing PDF or image.

Troubleshooting and limitations

If the combined files exceed 50 MB, the tool displays an error instead of creating an archive. Remove some files or split them into smaller groups; choosing one file over 50 MB also exceeds the limit.

If the Create ZIP control cannot be used, confirm that at least one file is selected. If the archive is larger than expected, check whether your inputs are already compressed or whether several large files were selected.

This tool does not recursively compress images to individual KB targets, does not create encrypted ZIPs, and does not upload the completed archive for you.

Quick answers

Can I select more than one file?

Yes. Choose multiple files in the file picker. The tool lists each one, and you can remove entries before creating the archive.

What is the combined file-size limit?

The current browser ZIP creator accepts up to 50 MB in total selected input files.

Will a ZIP make my PDFs smaller?

Not necessarily. ZIP is primarily for packaging here; images and PDFs are often already compressed.

Is this batch image compression?

No. Files are packaged without individually processing their image dimensions or target KB sizes.

Image file size depends on dimensions, format, compression settings and image detail. The same 1200 x 800 image can be small or huge depending on what it contains.
